Cousin John came to visit. Big family meal for Rach's 18th sat night. We walked out forgetting to pay for desserts & didn't realise. Next day, dscovered one of the guests had paid.
I didn't know John well as a kid since he was -still is- ten years younger than me and his sisters, but the age difference is small now. He's a great chap and gets on well with everyone, keen and very knowldgeable about everything; music, motorbikes, engineering, health. He's currently obsessed with an industrial conveyor belt he's designing, but in an entertaining way. He wakes up at 5 am thinking about some bolt that should be a different dimension, and things like that.
Rugby
He's a keen rugby fan being Welsh, and by coincidence our son Luke had a match; the final of the regional Lancashire Colts Cup. It was a close and exciting game. Luke's team, Liverpool Collegiate under 19s, won becoming the champions, so there was much celebration
Cancer,
I'm really enjoying the steroid and the energy and enthusiasm it gives me, now that I've got the hang of the slight unusualness of the feeling, the way it builds up to an unnatural peak in mid morning. I'm watching my diet so as not to bloat out like I think steroids do, and I'm doing as much exercise as I dare so as to direct weight gain to my muscles.
but i don't think it's going to work. I've put on 8 pounds in 5 days, and my face is getting fatter rather quickly. I look good today now that the wrinkles are gone, but fear I'll turn into a 'hamster cheeks' pretty soon.
Tinnitus
Having a pretty reasonable discussion. Trying to focus on the the importance of emphasising the difference between scientific fact and scientific opinion, and hope people get the message. I'm taking advantage of my illness and the sympathy I'm getting to make the point.
Maybe overstating an opinion as fact helps one's individual cause and beliefs, but in the broader sense it is a disservice to the common good.
